Praise be to Almighty Allah, who brought us into existence from nothing, made us aware of His existence, and has endowed us with His boundless blessings. May peace and blessings be upon His blessed messengers, sent to guide people to the right path and salvation. Likewise, may forgiveness and mercy be upon the Companions, the Successors, the scholars, the martyrs, the saints, and all those who have worked in accordance with His will for the sake of Islam to reach our time. May He grant us the blessing of performing beautiful and successful services by following in their footsteps. As you may recall, the first International Symposium on Islam and Interpretation was held on May 8–9, 2017, and the second on May 2–3, 2018. Organized by the Faculty of Theology at İnönü University, this event received widespread acclaim both domestically and internationally. In response to this reception and demand, it was decided to institutionalize the event and repeat it annually under a different theme. For this reason, in 2018, it was deemed appropriate to discuss the topic “The Outlook of the Islamic World in the 21st Century” under the main heading of “Islam and Interpretation,” and a total of 120 scholars from both within and outside the country participated in the program and delivered oral presentations. In the opening segment of the program, Prof. Dr. Ali BARDAKOĞLU, President of the Quran Research Center, delivered a lecture on Islam and Interpretation. Throughout history, the Islamic world has set an example for the world in terms of justice, human rights, science, culture, civilization, politics, strategy, and economics. However, it is a sad reality that, despite increasing underground and surface resources over the past two centuries, Islamic countries have lost their prestige and are not where they should be today. Attributing the causes of this situation and stagnation to others is not a solution. On the contrary, Muslims must return to the path of the Quran and Sunnah, which constitute a great treasure and legacy for humanity. Throughout history, the Islamic world has set an example for the world in terms of justice, human rights, science, culture, civilization, politics, strategy, and economics. However, it is a sad reality that, despite their abundant underground and surface resources, Islamic countries have lost prestige over the past two centuries and have failed to reach the position they deserve today. Attributing the causes of this situation and stagnation to others is not a solution. On the contrary, Muslims must return to the path of the Quran and Sunnah, which constitute a great treasure and legacy for humanity. Instead of repeating the familiar or imitating others, they must produce solutions that alleviate humanity’s suffering, taking social changes into account. For today, humanity is in greater need of education, research, accurate information, peace, and tranquility than at any other time in history.
