Among the last scholars nurtured by the Ottoman Empire through the Khorasan tradition, we were fortunate enough to introduce Hamit Hamdî-i Vânî el-Malatî and his work, Zübdetü’l-irfân fi tedkîki’l-itkân (751 pages), to the scientific world for the first time in 2016, thanks to God's grace and favor. Malatî (d. 1955), in addition to fundamental Islamic sciences, was also knowledgeable in natural sciences such as history, chemistry, anthropology, medicine, and astronomy. We see that he was fluent in Turkish (his native language), Arabic, Persian, Kurdish, English, French, and Armenian. The book includes the author's life, discusses jurisprudential issues, and provides information on the history of the Quran. It has been observed that the book was affected and damaged by adverse conditions during and after the War of Independence and the subsequent exiles. The works were first restored with technical assistance from the National Library, and their images were digitized. Most sections are written in Ottoman Turkish, some in Arabic, and the poems are generally in Persian. The poems, idioms, phrases, and quotations were translated into Turkish, their sources were provided, and the work was critically edited.
