Disasters are events that cause significant changes in the normal course of life. Throughout history, disasters, a reality of life, have always attracted people's attention. In almost every period of history, people have sought answers to questions such as why disasters occur, whether they can be predicted, whether they can be prevented, and how their effects can be reduced. In their search for answers to these questions, people have tried to utilize the possibilities of religion, tradition, and science. In the modern era, where reason and science are at the center of life, significant scientific studies have been conducted on disasters. In these studies, significant progress has been made in explaining the causes of disasters. Although significant progress has been made in predicting disasters other than earthquakes, it has not been possible to completely prevent disasters. However, significant work has been done in both preventive and remedial efforts to reduce the impact of disasters. Immediately after every disaster in the world, the state, acting as a representative of political authority, along with international organizations and civil society organizations, actively contribute to aid and recovery efforts. After the February 6th earthquakes, many civil society organizations operating at local, national, and global levels took their place in the field and carried out important work. Following the February 6th earthquakes, many civil society organizations in Malatya, as in other affected provinces, carried out valuable work. Providing opportunities for these organizations to present their work is crucial in many respects. However, documenting and recording the experiences and observations of those working in the field on behalf of civil society organizations is just as valuable as the activities themselves. The Earthquake and Civil Society Workshop aimed to document and systematically transform the experiences of civil society organizations and their managers and representatives in the field into tangible information. In this context, civil society organization managers and representatives evaluated their earthquake-related activities at four separate tables. At one table, the post-earthquake activities of civil society organizations were evaluated by managers of public institutions and organizations in the province. The evaluations conducted at five separate tables were recorded by two rapporteurs at each table, and these records were systematized and compiled into a report. The Earthquake and Civil Society Report was prepared as a result of transforming the information, opinions, and suggestions provided by the actors actively working in the field into systematic knowledge. This report contains important information that will contribute to preparedness for all types of future disasters, especially earthquakes, as well as post-disaster search and rescue and all recovery processes. We hope that this report, which has the potential to contribute to increasing the awareness, understanding, and preparedness levels of every individual, civil society organization, and public institution regarding disasters, will make the necessary contribution. We express our gratitude to the Malatya Governorship, the Rectorate of İnönü University, and the Rectorate of Turgut Özal University for their support from the conceptualization to the implementation and reporting phases of the workshop. We thank all participants who contributed to the workshop, especially the valuable managers and representatives of civil society organizations and the valuable managers of public institutions and organizations who shared their knowledge and experience. We congratulate the faculty members and research assistants of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of İnönü University and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Turgut Özal University for their dedicated work and efforts in the preparation process of the workshop. With the hope that the report will contribute to awareness, prevention, and recovery processes related to disasters…
