Higher education institutions, which are at the center of social development and transformation, contribute to social development both through the academic knowledge they produce and through the qualified individuals they help become ethical and professional. At İnönü University, we support our students' academic and social development through our scientific studies, while also preserving our city's ancient history and cultural heritage. Our city of Malatya ranks among Turkey's leading regions in terms of its history, culture, and natural wealth. The fundamental reason for this richness is that it has been home to great civilizations such as the Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman empires, and it is also located at the intersection of important road networks such as the Silk Road, the Roman Road, and the King's Road, which facilitated the physical and cultural flow between the East and the West. Furthermore, the fact that the beyliks migration route and the travel route of Hz. Mevlâna passed through Malatya has given our city a historical depth and a rich, multi-layered landscape. The fact that these rich civilizations have left their mark on the cultural and physical fabric of the region throughout history has also ensured that our Malatya has a unique cultural memory and a rich historical heritage. The work titled “Reading the Memory of the Landscape: Ancient Roman Roads in the Malatya Region,” prepared for publication by Inönü University Press, aims to analyze the historical heritage and cultural promotion of our Malatya from a holistic perspective and transform these riches into cultural routes. I believe it will make significant contributions to the promotion of our region and cultural tourism.
