The Poetic Biography of the Prophet

Siyer is a field of study and a literary genre that deals with the life and personality of the Prophet, his missionary activities, and his political and military struggles. Siyer books are divided into three categories in terms of form: prose, verse, and a mixture of verse and prose. While most of the siyer in verse are short, there are also quite voluminous ones consisting of thousands of verses. The Siyer-i Nebî you have in your hands, which we are working on, was written in 872/1468 by an author named Muhammad. This work, which is the first and most voluminous rhymed siyer written in the 15th century, is written in the mesnevi verse form and consists of 15,496 verses.

Written in simple language that the public can understand and in a sincere style, this work has been passed from hand to hand for five centuries, recited from mouth to mouth, read and listened to in gatherings of friends. The people of Anatolia, who are deeply attached to their national and spiritual values, have never parted with this and similar works. This exquisite work, which contains material that can serve as a source for scientific studies, also has the quality of appealing to people from all walks of life.
